“…Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.” —Matthew 28:20
Why Should We Witness? Top Four Reasons…
-
Reason One—It is the Lord's commandment.
Acts 1:8
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Acts 5:31 and 32
Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
Matthew 28:19-20
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost;
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.
Matthew 9:37-38
Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few;
Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
Clearly, it is Christ’s desire for Christians to carry the message of Christ to the lost of the world.
-
Reason Two—Each of us has a sphere of influence.
We have loved ones, relatives, friends, neighbors, classmates and co-workers. We have a responsibility to witness to those whom we may have a close bond to. Any of those who are lost and become a Christian will share a glorious eternity with Christ. Those that do not become Christians will spend time in hell and be cast into the Lake of Fire at the Great White Throne of Judgement. We will rejoice for the saved and weep for the lost. our grief will truly be bitter if we did not attempt to introduce them to Christ.
God causes us to have opportunities to witness to strangers that we meet while shopping, traveling or other daily activities. We will also weep if we recall an opportunity to witness to them and did not if we see them meet their fate at the Great White Throne of Judgement.
-
Reason Three—Because we love our Lord Jesus Christ.
When we accept Christ as our Lord, we accept Him as our redeemer, who has paid the price for our sins on the cross. We also accept Him as our Lord, committing to live in accordance with His will to the best of our abilities. The Holy Spirit comes to live within us, and gently and lovingly leads us into a close, loving relationship with Christ. We want to live a life pleasing to Him, and that includes following His commandment to witness to the lost. There is no satisfaction greater for a Christian than to know that they have been obedient to the will of Christ.
-
Reason Four—To participate in an active partnership with God.
God has clearly chosen to use the Church for His ministry on earth. We Christians are the Church.
When we accept Christ as our Saviour and Lord, and our acceptance is genuine, and believing in our heart, the Holy Spirit comes to live within us. This seals our salvation.
The Holy Spirit is also in the world to win the lost to Christ. We are never alone when we witness. It is a partnership. Our responsibility is to be the feet to carry the word to the lost and the voice to provide the message of salvation through the persons ears to his/her brain. This is where the Holy Spirit takes over. The Holy Spirit takes the salvation message that has been presented to the lost person and applies it to the person’s heart.
Now, that person may not accept Christ during this witnessing session, but you, in partnership with the Holy Spirit, may have planted a seed of salvation, or may have watered a seed that had previously been planted by another Christian, in conjunction with the Holy Spirit. If the person does accept Christ as their Saviour and Lord, you may have helped harvest a soul!
The person may never accept Christ. After all, the Lord requires us to come to Him out of the exercise of our free will. No one can be forced to accept Christ. Even Christ, although he loved the young rich man, allowed him to walk away. Whether a person ever accepts Christ or not, if you witnessed to them, you and the Holy Spirit performed in accordance with God’s will.
We are extremely blessed that when we witness, we are actually in an active partnership with the Holy Spirit! What a privilege!
